Richard Blackford is one of the foremost concert and media composers in Europe. His concert works are performed regularly around the world and his music for film and television is broadcast frequently in almost every European country. His much-acclaimed Pietà won the Ivor Novello Composer Award in 2020 for the Choral Category.

World-renowned tenor Jonas Kaufmann writes of Pietà: "Richard Blackford has created an outstanding choral work: a passionate and personal tribute in memory of all who suffer from violence, suppression and political persecution, which has deeply impressed me. Finally a modern composer who is not afraid of writing beautiful and touching music!"  

Highlights of 2021 include the premiere of  Vision Of A Garden (for baritone, chorus and orchestra), a Bach Choir commission, to be premiered at the Royal Festival Hall on October 24th, and Echo, a Bournemouth Symphony Chorus commission to be premiered at The Lighthouse, Poole on September 26th. 

2022 sees the premieres of Babel, commissioned by Camden Choir for its 50th anniversary at Cadogan Hall on March 20th., and A Gaudí Symphony, a BBC National Orchestra of Wales commission, on April 22nd in Hoddinott Hall, Cardiff.  Both will be conducted by the composer. Further performances of Pietá will be given at The Three Choirs Festival on July 27th. and in Winchester Cathedral on April 29th.

New CD recordings of Vision Of A Garden, Mirror Of Perfection, A Gaudí Symphony and Richard's new orchestration of the Verdi Requiem for two pianos, organ and percussion, commissioned by The Bach Choir, will be released in 2022.

Richard is a Trustee of Music For Youth, The Bach Choir, the Aberystwyth MusicFest. He is Chair of The English Music Festival and President of the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus.

He is published by Novello and Nimbus Publishing and his current recordings are available on Nimbus and Signum Records.
